Think clearer. Lead better. Walk it out.

If sitting face-to-face in a room feels intense, you’re not alone. Many men think better side-by-side, with movement and space, without losing structure or outcomes. I use the outdoors deliberately to reduce pressure, break patterns and sharpen thinking under real-world conditions.

Why the outdoors works (especially for men)

Most men don’t struggle because they can’t talk. They struggle because the setup doesn’t suit them: sitting still, face-to-face, trying to find the right words while their nervous system is already running hot.

Outdoor coaching changes the conditions:

  • Less intensity: side-by-side conversation reduces the feeling of being scrutinised
  • More regulation: movement and fresh air help the body settle, which improves thinking and decision-making
  • Fewer stuck patterns: a different environment often creates different responses
  • More honesty: it’s easier to speak plainly when you’re walking and not “performing” in a room

This isn’t about escaping your life. It’s about building the ability to lead yourself inside it.

I’m currently completing specialist training as a Certified Outdoor Therapist, strengthening how I deliver safe, ethical outdoor sessions with clear boundaries, confidentiality and risk management.

What brings men to outdoor coaching

You’re carrying pressure and can’t switch off
You’re functioning, but it’s costing you. You want a calmer headspace and cleaner decisions.

You overthink and second-guess
You want to get out of your head and back into clear action.

You’re more reactive than you want to be
At home or at work, pressure leaks out. You want steadiness and control without going numb.

You want consistency
Habits, boundaries, routines, training, leadership - you want follow-through that holds when life gets busy.

You want space to think properly
Not “a chat”. Space to think, decide, and move.

What we do in sessions (so it’s not just a walk)

Outdoor coaching is structured. Each session has:

  • a clear focus (what you want from today)
  • a practical exploration (what’s really driving this pattern/pressure)
  • a decision point (what you’re choosing to do differently)
  • next steps you can implement immediately

Depending on what you’re working on, I may also use simple nature-based methods that support reflection and change - things like using the environment as metaphor, mindful movement, and practical grounding strategies. Nothing cringe. Just tools that work.

How outdoor sessions work

We meet at an agreed location in the West Dartmoor area and walk a pre-agreed route. I choose routes with practicality and discretion in mind.

Confidentiality outdoors
We may pass other walkers. If we do, we simply pause or shift the conversation naturally. I’ll never approach you first or identify you as a client.

Boundaries and safety
Outdoor work needs good judgement. My training covers the fundamentals of delivering outdoor sessions safely and ethically - including confidentiality, boundaries, session management, and appropriate risk assessment.

What to bring

  • suitable footwear and weather-appropriate clothing (Dartmoor will do what it wants)
  • water
  • anything you want to note down afterwards (optional)

How coaching works (start to finish)

Free 30-minute discovery call
We’ll talk through what’s happening, what you want instead, and whether outdoor coaching is the right fit. If it is, we’ll agree a plan and a starting point.

Sessions
Sessions are 60 minutes. Most men choose weekly or fortnightly. Outdoor coaching can be standalone, or combined with indoor/online sessions depending on what works best.

Pricing
Outdoor sessions are £75 for 60 minutes. Packages are available if you want more structure and accountability - we’ll decide what fits on the discovery call.

Weather
If conditions are genuinely unsafe (storms, high winds, ice), we’ll switch to an in the room or online session or reschedule.

Why work with me outdoors

I’m local and I use Dartmoor properly
This isn’t “meet in a car park and wander”. I plan routes, manage the session, and keep it purposeful.

I’m direct, calm, and practical
You’ll leave with clarity and next steps - not just insight.

I’m training specifically in outdoor therapeutic practice
I’m completing a Certified Outdoor Therapist programme that covers the fundamentals of outdoor work: ethical issues, confidentiality outdoors, boundaries, managing the environment, risk assessment, and practical delivery.
